Investigations of a Dog
We read and discussed Investigations of a Dog by Franz Kafka. A humorous yet puzzling book, the students and the lecturer shared our thoughts and interpretations of what this short story means. The narrator is a dog who is also a philosopher. We discussed whether the dog is a parable for the limitations of human intelligence and reason, what we thought of the character, and how the character’s philosophy mirrors philosophies in the real world.
Franz Kafka (1883-1924) is widely regarded as one of the greatest authors of the 20th century. His books deal with issues of bureaucracy, alienation, and absurdity. Some of his other famous works include, The Metamorphosis, The Trial, and The Castle.
